Trying out a free ad tracker is a great way to get started tracking your sales.  There’s some FREE ad tracking software available now.  This particular software is designed for PPC, but can be used for tracking any web link such as articles or web 2.0 properties.  Are you new to ad tracking?   Have you started to get a few sales and realized you’d like to know where they’re coming from? If so you should check out Prosper202 or Tracking202.  Before I go into detail lets look at the company behind them.

Most of us know that you typically don’t get any free lunches in this world. Usually if you do get something for free, there is little to no support available.  Sometimes free has a very heavy cost.  But a couple of guys put together a company and started with free products and services.  They actually did something very different, they provided and still do provide excellent customer support.

Tracking202 was first to hit the scene and is a great FREE ad tracking service.  You log in to a server and setup your campaigns. No software to install, or server maintenance to deal with.  It’s great for the non-techie or someone who just wants to get started fast and doesn’t want to have to deal with software to get moving.  The biggest downside and what many are hung up on is that your campaign data is on someone else’s server.

Well the 202 guys listened to their customers and delivered.  They took Tracking202 and made a self hosted software package called Prosper202.  The good news for all of us is that you can now have a free ad tracker and host it on your server so that you control the data.  It’s the same great tracker software that you can download and install on your own server.  Sweet!!!  I have to give it to them, they have been very transparent, open, and honest when it comes to their services.

Now the best part is that the 202 guys still provide killer customer support.  Their forum is very active and they answer questions and even help out new folks to get started with CPA and get into the networks.  What a great group of guys.  There’s more free services as well like Export202 which will take your Google or Yahoo campaigns and convert them to the big 3 search engines, Google, Yahoo, and MSN.  This is huge time saver especially for larger campaigns.

One of the key features of Tracking202 and Prosper202 not found in many ad trackers is link cloaking.  What’s cool about it is the fact that when turned on it hides your data from the affiliate networks.  This is a good thing.  Not to criticize any affiliate managers out there, but your data is often shared with other affiliates in the hopes of more sales which can destroy your campaign.  Sometimes publishers will take your data and create their own campaigns to get higher profits and not have to payout affiliate commissions.  Well not anymore…

A few other features include tracking your landing page click-through-rates and you can use direct linking while cloaking and tracking your data;  how cool is that?

All in all it’s important to get started with tracking.  You can start with a free ad tracker while getting support and customer service rivaling that of paid services.   It’s a true win-win.
