Now you can download a version of Prosper202 1.6.1 that has already been modded…
You might be asking ‘why would I want to do that?’… well it’s always nice to get some extra functionality and the community has responded with some pretty cool mods.
So 3 Mods have been added to this modded version to make Prosper202 1.6.1 even better:
- Landing Page Click Through Rate Mod (LP CTR Mod) – Thanks NerdyAffiliate.com
- Step #3 Placeholder Buttons – Thanks CTRTard.com
- Works on servers that don’t allow MySQL Partitioning – Thanks BlueLayerMedia.com
Check out this short video to learn more about each mod:

Rather then try to figure out how to mod Prosper202 1.6.1 yourself…
You can simply download the modded version and perform a fresh install on your server… It doesn’t get much easier than that.
If your just getting started with Prosper202, might as well start with the modded version and get some extra functionality.
Special Note: This modded version should work ok with most shared hosting… but if you are doing more than a few thousand clicks a day or PPV advertising it is highly recommended you step up to at least a decent Virtual Private Server (VPS) for performance reasons. This version does not use the MySQL partitioning so at around 250,000 clicks you will most likely see a slowdown in the click reports.
About HostGator Shared Accounts: There is probably no version of Prosper202 including this one that will run well on HostGator Shared Accounts anymore. HostGator managed to break all my tracking scripts, not just Prosper202. They’ve locked the security so tight on shared accounts it even broke my shopping cart script. Time to get a different hosting account for your tracking scripts.
If you know of another cool mod you’d like to see added or for any feedback good, bad and constructive criticism… Please leave a comment below.

Derek,
For PPC, how do you get both bid & searched keyword on P202?
Thanks for the heads up, Derek. Question, though – how is the old version uninstalled? Just install over it? And, do I keep the same database and 202 config file?
Hey Tom,
You’re welcome… Well, if you don’t need any of the campaign data then you can do a fresh install…
But if you want to keep the data and just get the Subid Injection Buttons and LP CTR Mods then I need to do a video on how to update your existing Prosper202 install just for those two mods. The reason is you’ll need to do a few MySQL commands for the LP CTR mod to work.
To do a fresh install and get the mods you only really need to upload 2 folders from the Prosper202 1.6.1 Modded version… the Tracking202 and 202-config folders… all 3 mods are within those two folders if your doing a fresh install.
If you would like to keep the MySQL partitioning I can create a separate modded version with just the two other mods.
The fastest way to do a fresh install is to use the same config file and just delete your existing database and create a new database that is named the exact same as the old one. Then add the same user to the new database as the old database used.
This means you didn’t change anything in the config file and everything is still named the same but with a new database.
Once you do that you can browse to your Prosper202 domain or sub domain and create your username and password just like you originally did. You’ll now have a fresh install.
But you will lose all your data with a fresh install obviously since you deleted the original database…
I’ll do a video on updating your existing Prosper202 install for the Subid Buttons and LP CTR mods and get that posted ASAP.
Thanks for the comment, I really appreciate it.

Hey Jairo,
I’ve seen that question come up a few times and have been thinking about a good way to take care of it. I’m not sure that a simple mod can be done within Prosper202 to get it done… but, with these latest versions of Propser202 you can select either the bidded keyword or searched keyword to be used.
My thought is you can go in ‘my account’ within your Prosper202 server and select bidded keyword, that’s what will show up in Prosper202 for keyword data… Then add a “C” variable like c1 and use the dynamic keyword insertion for various PPC networks to get the searched keyword.
This has it’s drawbacks and isn’t the best way to go, but I think it might work as a temporary solution. I haven’t tested it yet.
I hope that helps out…
I’ll see about getting Prosper202 modded to handle both the search and bidded keyword and see what I can come up with. I might even ask CTR Tard about a mod… lol
Thanks for the comment, I really appreciate it.

Hey Tom,
I did a quick video and provided the necessary files to do a quick upgrade of your existing Prosper202 server…
In case you haven’t seen the new post yet…
You can check it our here:

I hope that helps out…
Thanks,

Derek,
I haven’t used 202 for a while and I am unsure of what the placeholders do at the affiliate campaign setup.
Do these go after the tracking parameter in the affiliate url (&subid=)?
I really appreciate your help.
Jairo
Derek,
Never mind the previous question, I must say the C parameter idea sounds great, I’ll try it out.
Thanks
Jairo
Derek,
How to you get the “C” variable in a report?
Jairo
Hey Jairo,
I go through the “C” variables pretty extensively in the direct linking videos… But the only place you can get “C” variable data is in the “Overview” tab then Group Overview…
You can pick up to 4 variables to look at.
Something like “Campaign” + “Landing Page” + “Keyword” + “C1″ might work really well for you.
That way you can get a pretty good feel for what’s working and what’s not.
I hope that helps out…
Thanks,
Derek
Thanks for sharing I had a heck of a time getting P202 loaded on a shared hosting w/ Host Gator but I followed your directions and used your moded setup and it worked like a dream. Now its time to see if this can handle any traffic. I was wondering is there a way that you know of to somehow instead of having the redirect go through Host Gator some how redirect through Amazon’s cloud server? Or maybe even do the install on my Amazon Acct? Its a lot faster and very reliable for hosting video and such why not P202? Anyone have any experience with this?
Hey Bryan,
You’re welcome…
Well on HostGator shared hosting, don’t expect miracles for redirect speeds…
I don’t believe that there is a way to do just the redirects using Amazon Cloud server… I don’t use Amazon Cloud server, but I do use Amazon S3. If the Amazon Cloud server allows the use of Apache, MySQL, and PHP then you should be able to install it. But I’m not sure as I’ve never done the install on Amazon Cloud before.
If you can install on the Amazon Cloud, that should work well. If not…
You’re best bet if you’re going to push a lot of traffic is to use a VPS or dedicated server. There are even cloud VPS capabilities available. Performance does matter so be a little picky if you go that route.
Shared hosting has it’s limitations, especially if you push a lot of traffic.
I hope that helps… Thanks for leaving a comment.

Hey Derek,
I know its a deffinate issue and I to me its not worth the potential to lose thousands of dollars in lost traffic to save 50 bucks. I am in the process of moving it over to VPS acct. Ive been hearing some good things about Wiredtree but going to dig around a bit to make sure im going to get something that’s not going to cost me money by loosing traffic. I am really interested in the Cloud hosting as its pretty reliable and very fast. Are you using S3 for your redirects? or just for other hosting? Thanks for the reply and all of the help your site offers
Hey Brian,
Very cool… I agree, it’s not worth the small savings to possibly lose a lot of money in the process. Performance is extremely important.
I haven’t heard of WiredTree… I looked at several possibilities when making the switch to a VPS… Gigenet cloud looked very interesting, although I didn’t try them out. I went with KnownHost for my VPS… So far I’m pretty happy with them, although I do need to hit them up from time to time for Mod Security issues so they can fix it for me.
But the tech support is pretty decent. I run up to 4 different tracking scripts at one time. So sometimes the Mod Security is a little tight.
Also the P202 guys suggest Beyond Hosting VPS… They have an optimized VPS just for Prosper202… And they handle upgrades and it comes pre-installed on your VPS. Although a little expensive, it looks decent. They guarantee it’ll handle up to 100,000 redirects a day. You might want to take a look.
I tried out SiteCloud but wasn’t very happy with the performance… Testing blog load times and load testing back to back against HostGator, SiteCloud lost every time and was very inconsistent. HostGator had the fastest load times for my blogs and was very consistent. I haven’t tested redirect speeds yet.
I would love to find a fast cloud hosting that uses cPanel / WHM and is managed so if I have problems I can get help.
I use S3 for videos and product downloads as well as images for my blogs and websites… basically trying to offload some of the heavy lifting from my web server to increase performance.
I still use a HostGator reseller account for hosting my blogs and websites. So far in testing they do really well. But I don’t trust them with my Prosper202 server or other tracking scripts. So all my tracking scripts are on a KnownHost VPS.
I still have more performance testing to do… I want to test KnownHost VPS against HostGator and SiteCloud for P202 redirect speed as well. I might go ahead and dump SiteCloud and try out Gigenet Cloud and see how that does performance wise.
You’re welcome… I’m glad to help out.
Thanks for stopping by and leaving comments, I really appreciate it.
Derek
Cool I am going to check those sites out. I really hate moving my hosting around so I definitely want to find something that is going to work with minimal hassle. I completely agree w/ you about HostGator for the blogs, I have a bunch of them and have never really had a problem even with traffic surges but I definitely don’t want to risk it with the higher volumes that come in while running campaigns. Beyond Hosting looks pretty interesting time to dig into it a bit.
Its time to get it done before the Valentines and the Tax season hits and the traffic spikes again.
Hey Bryan,
Yeah, Beyond Hosting VPS looks interesting to me too. I might go ahead and get one and do some performance testing against say KnownHost and Gigenet Cloud server.
Before I move all my blogs and websites to another hosting I want to make sure performance is there and growth capability is too. SiteCloud looked good, but in the end just didn’t perform the way I expected it too.
I’m a big believer in running a tracking domain and keeping it separate from my blog and website hosting. Performance is the key even if it costs a little extra every month.
So it might be good to run say a Beyond Hosting VPS just for your tracking scripts and something else for your blogs and websites.
Something to think about anyway.
Let us know what you pick and how it works out…
Thanks,
Derek
I couldn’t agree more about splitting your blogs and tracking. Ill give you an example I accidentally stumbled on a domain that I shouldn’t have been able to find that was on the same dedicated server as a blog I enjoy reading. It was his prosper acct and after checking the traffic on quantcast and alexa, adplanner the guys getting like 6 million visitors (and growing)to his Prosper site per month for at least the past year.
The main reason I was looking at having Prosper on Amazon S3 was to avoid this exact situation. For some reason Prosper is not setup very well to avoid having the redirects from being “indexed” so here is this guys whole business out in plain site and he doesn’t even now it. This is a major flaw in prosper and it doesn’t even seem like updating the Robots.txt seems to matter but it sure is a good reason to make sure you at least have it on your site. Is there any kind of mod to the code or a certain way you can update your site to avoid google from showing all of your “redirects”? To me seeing this was pretty eye opening and a definite wake-up call to not only be sure you have reliable tracking but do everything you can to “protect it” from preying eyes.
Hey Brian,
That is interesting…
If you can block a word press blog from the search engines you should be able to block Prosper202 as well.
I don’t know the code to do it, but I will look into it and then add the code needed to the modded version 1.6.1 available on the Ad Trackr blog. I’ll also do a post and explain how to keep your Prosper202 server from being indexed as well and I’ll reply to this post too.
Thanks for the heads up, I’ve never tested that before.
I’ll see what can be done.
Thanks again,
Derek
Hi,
I bit the bullet and got a beyondhosting account the one designed for prosper202 with mem cache, and checked the redirect speed against the sitecloud account through pingdom speed test:
sitecloud redirect: 1.6 seconds
beyond hosting: .3 seconds
The results speak for themselves.
Jairo
Hey Jairo,
Holy crap, that’s a big difference. Wow!
Thanks for sharing the results.
Derek
Hey Derek, it’s been a while since we chatted last! Can you tell me what you think is best.. beyond hosting 256MB P202 optimized server or MediaTemple 512MB DV? I’m looking for a good prosper tracking setup.
Thanks man!
-Chris
Hey Chris,
I hope things are good… I think it depends on what your overall goals are.
If you just want Prosper202 hosting, and you want a done for you solution… In other words you don’t have to install or update Prosper202. Then Beyond Hosting is the way to go, but I’m not sure I would do the 256Mb P202. For a Prosper202 only setup the VPS512N is the way to go. It only does Prosper202, that’s it and it’s designed to be fast.
I actually got to talk with one of Beyond Hosting’s founders… He hit me up on chat a little over a week ago and we talked on Skype. So I asked a lot of questions about there facilities and the Prosper202 VPS servers and their data centers and stuff like that.
I like how he views server and network performance… lol
He was really cool and explained their different offerings. So I feel pretty comfortable with Beyond Hosting…
I had never heard of MediaTemple… They look really good too. The only downside I see to MediaTemple for me, is no cPanel. I don’t need another learning curve. So any hosting I look at needs cPanel, that’s just my personal opinion.
But I’m very impressed with their offerings and how they view the technology… Instead of jumping on the “Cloud Hosting” bandwagon they explain what the technology really is. I like that. Their data centers look killer, especially the VA facility.
If you’re looking for overall hosting including running your Prosper202 server, I think either Beyond Hosting or Media Temple is a good pick.
If you just want to run a Prosper202 server, I like the “done for you” solution from Beyond Hosting. The VPS512N’s sole purpose in life is to run Prosper202 extremely fast and that’s it.
If you’re comfortable installing and updating Prosper202 and you know your way around a web server then the Media Temple server looks good too. I don’t see where media temple offers managed services, so make sure your comfortable with web server technology if you go this route.
I hope that helps out…
